Memories in Flux

Memory is that intangible part of ourself; the part that helps define who we are; the part that we have very little control over. It lurks somewhere and then, following a certain cues, floating into our consciousness regardless of whether we want it or not. This body of work is my attempt to capture a fragment of this fickle self. The cues are old street scenes, rendered in that fuzzy nature of fleeting thoughts, and layered with fluorescent acrylic paints, the way images float and glow in my mind-eyes. The ensuing flux of memories brought me back to those youthful years, wandering through downtown Houston at night, searching for meaning. Then fast forward to a summer I spent wandering the streets of Italy, searching for inspiration. These are the moments that had influent my artistic expression. The images are digital photos that had come back with me from Italy, the fluorescent silkscreen was a fun experimental technique from graduate school, so it became natural for me to put the two together. Old buildings, narrow alleys, glowing sky..what flux of memories do they unleash, in your own mind?
